Adriana Davies, Program and Communications Chair, Edmonton Verdi FestivalAdriana Davies was born in Italy and grew up in Edmonton, Canada. She received BA and MA degrees from the University of Alberta, and Ph D from the University of London, UK. From 1986-92, she was President of the National Congress of Italian Canadians, Edmonton District. Adriana has worked with a range of ethnocultural communities in order to create content for the Alberta Online Encyclopedia (www.albertasource.ca), which she created for the Heritage Community Foundation. She has worked as a researcher, writer, editor, lecturer, cultural executive director and exhibit curator for more than 35 years in England and Canada. Adriana has served on numerous professional committees including the Canada-France Cultural Accord Steering Committee; Canadian Commission for UNESCO think-tank on the digital heritage; grant juries and federal reviews of the heritage sector. Awards received include: Alberta Museums Association Life Time Achievement Award, Province of Alberta Centennial Medal, Global Woman of Vision Award, YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in the Arts, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. In 2010, she was awarded the Order of Canada for creating the Alberta Online Encyclopedia, contribution to the promotion and preservation of Alberta's cultural heritage, and service to the museum community provincially and nationally.
