Co-Chair, Edmonton Verdi Festival

Antonella Ciancibello-Normey, Co-Chair, Edmonton Verdi FestivalAntonella Ciancibello-Normey has been an active volunteer in Edmonton’s Italian community for over 20 years. Her numerous talents were put to use when she strategically planned and led the first weekend celebration of all “20” regions of Italy. This event continues today and promotes different aspects of Italian culture while providing a showcase for Edmonton organizations and institutions including the Edmonton Opera, the Alberta Conservatory of Music MacEwan University, the Suzuki Charter School, the NAIT Culinary Arts program, the Appennini Dancers and the Italian Folk Choir among others. Antonella saw community needs and helped to address them. This included establishing a summer camp for children in the Italian community (ages 2 to 13), and developing the instructional and recreational components, and recruiting professional teaching staff and community volunteers. She has also served on the Santa Maria Goretti Parish Council and wrote the Engaged Couples' Manual, which is used in the marriage preparation program. In her professional life, since 1989, she has been an educator (University of Alberta, MacEwan University and NAIT School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts), a private tutor in the Italian language and culture, and tour organizer and leader.
