June 9th - (3:30 - 5:00 pm) - Ital-Canadian Seniors Centre

Once again, the "Va Pensiero" chorus, this time as a transcription for piano four-hands. This way, we will open the second Appuntamento Musicale Verdiano, in large part dedicated to instrumental music because of the unique participation of the Vaughan String Quartet. Anna Scarpelli and Annette Sabo will be the featured singers with songs by G. Caccini, V. Bellini, G. Puccini and G. Verdi, while the Quartet will perform the touching Elegy "Crisantemi" by G. Puccini and a few quintets with piano. One of them is an adaptation of the fascinating "Intermezzo" from Cavalleria Rusticana by P. Mascagni. The other two are commissioned works written by Italian young cellist and composer Luca Colardo, and are based on Richard Wagner's Tristan and Isolde: Prelude and Isolde's Death. This is going to be a world premiere of the first-ever transcriptions for piano quintet written on the music of Wagner from Tristan and Isolde. We are proud to celebrate in this way Wagner's anniversary, showcasing a young talent all the way from Italy (Milan). A short piano four-hands-transcription from Lohengrin will complete our tribute to Wagner in a concert where you will have the chance to listen also to "Liber Scriptus" from the great Requiem of Giuseppe Verdi.
