Edmonton Verdi Festival Promotional Video

The short promotional video is a visual and auditory taste of the Edmonton Verdi Festival 2013 musical offerings. It showcases husband-and-wife piano duo Stephanie Kwan and Emilio De Mercato playing a four-handed piano transcription of the “Brindisi” chorus from the opera La Traviata. This was part of the Amici in Concerto concert held on January 13th, 2013 at the Santa Maria Goretti Community Centre organized by the Amici della Musica Committee of the National Congress of Italian Canadians, Edmonton District.

The music of Giuseppe Verdi bridges generations and continents and we have tried to reflect this in the background images beginning with the flags of Canada and Italy. Images are drawn from Verdi’s life and the period of Italian Reunification during which he lived, and Milan where the La Scala Opera is located, the site where many of his works were performed.

The Festival is “made in Edmonton” and we have reflected this in background images that are unmistakably Edmonton. These include the Legislative Assembly of Alberta; the ampitheatre at Hawrelak Park in Edmonton’s beautiful North Saskatchewan River Valley – the site of the SERVUS Heritage Festival, one of the Verdi Festival performance venues; the Santa Maria Goretti Community Centre in Little Italy, another performance venue; the Appenninni Dancers; and the Winspear Centre for Music.

Images of other Verdi Festival performers are included.  Partner organizations such as the Edmonton Youth Orchestra and the Edmonton Opera Chorus are featured as well as musicians Silvia Buttiglione, Mattia Berrini and the Vaughan Quartet.
